Headlight Control Module: Firebird

  1. Disconnect HCM 5-pin connector. Use a test light to check for voltage at specified wire terminals of HCM 5-pin connector (harness side). See Figure or Figure .
  2. Check for voltage between ground and terminal "B". If voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, check Orange wire for open or short to ground.
  3. Check for voltage between terminals "B" and "D". If voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, check Black wire for open.
  4. Check for voltage between ground and terminal "E". If voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, check Orange wire for open or short to ground.
  5. Turn light switch to PARK position. Check for voltage between ground and terminal "C". If voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, check Brown wire, light switch or Orange wire between light switch and TAIL fuse for open or short to ground.
  6. Check for voltage between ground and terminal "A". If voltage is not present, go to next step. If voltage is present, check Yellow wire and light switch for short to battery. Also check daytime running light module and daytime running light Red/White wire for short to battery.
  7. Turn light switch to HEAD position. Check for voltage between ground and terminal "C". If voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, check Brown wire, light switch or Orange wire between light switch and TAIL fuse for open or short to ground.
  8. Check for voltage between ground and terminal "A". If voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, check Yellow wire for open or short to ground.
  9. Turn light switch to OFF position. Check for voltage between ground and terminal "C". If voltage is not present, go to next step. If voltage is present, check Brown wire and light switch for short to battery. Also check daytime running light module and daytime running light Orange wire for short to battery.
  10. Check for voltage between ground and terminal "A". Voltage should not be present. If voltage is present, check Yellow wire and light switch for short to battery. Also check daytime running light module and daytime running light Red/White wire for short to battery.
