Coolant Temperature Indicator

  1. If light remains on when engine is not overheated, remove coolant temperature sensor connector. If light goes off, replace coolant temperature switch. If light does not go off, check Dark Green wire for short to ground. If wire is okay on Grand Prix only, replace instrument cluster. If wire is okay on all other models, replace ignition switch.
  2. On Grand Prix, if light does not come on for bulb check test, disengage 48-pin connector located behind instrument panel near steering column. Jumper terminal C3 (Green/White wire) to ground. If light comes on, check Green/White wire for open. If wire is okay, replace ignition switch.
  3. On all other models, if light does not come on for bulb check test, check bulb and fuse. If bulb and fuse are okay, ground Dark Green wire at ignition switch connector, located behind instrument panel on steering column. If indicator light comes on, check wire for open circuit. If wire is okay, replace ignition switch. If indicator light does not come on, check Dark Green wire for open.
