Code 35, Idle Speed Error: Notes

Code 35 will set when the closed throttle engine speed is 150 RPM greater than or less than the correct idle speed for 20 seconds.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. A "Tech 1" special tester is used to extend and retract the IAC valve. The valve should move smoothly within the specified range. If the idle speed is commanded too low by the tester, the engine may stall. If the idle speed is commanded too high by the tester, there may be a delay before the RPM's start dropping. Both are normal.
  2. During this step, the Tech 1 issues commands to control idle speed. The ECM then issues commands to obtain commanded idle speed. The lights on the tester should flash Red and Green to indicate a good circuit as the ECM issues the commands. The flash sequence is not important, but ensure lights do flash. If either light does not flash, check the circuits for faults. Check for poor terminal connections.
