Spark Plugs
- When changing spark plugs on 1983-86 Firenza and Sunbird with 1.8L engine, the engine must be allowed to cool prior to spark plug removal. As with any engine with aluminum cylinder heads, if engine is not allowed to cool, spark plug seizure and/or stripped cylinder head threads may occur.
- When installing spark plugs in engines with aluminum heads, anti-seize compound should be applied sparingly to spark plug threads. Spark plugs should be tightened to specification. Overtightening of spark plugs can cause stretching of the spark plug shell and could allow blow-by to pass through gasket seal between spark plug shell and insulator. Overtightening may also result in extremely difficult removal and possible damage to cylinder head spark plug threads.
