Wheel Alignment Specifications & Procedures: Adjustments: Caster

NOTE: On diesel engine vehicles, remove resonator bracket before adjusting caster and camber. On all model, jounce vehicle several times to settle suspension. Release on down stroke. Check for proper tire pressure, worn steering or suspension components.
  1. Loosen nuts attaching upper control arm pivot shaft to frame. To increase caster (positive), remove shims from front bolt and add them to rear bolt. Difference between front and rear shim pack should not exceed .40" (10.2 mm).
  2. To decrease caster (negative), add shims to front and remove from rear bolt. Tighten control arm shaft nuts, starting with thin shim pack first. Recheck caster. See Fig 1 .
Fig 1: Rear Wheel Drive Caster & Camber Adjustment With shims out or top mount nuts loose, vehicle weight will move control arm or strut to inboard position.
