Repair and Diagnosis: Transmission: Clutches: Description

A single plate, dry friction disc with a diaphragm spring-type clutch is used on all models. The assembly consists of a clutch driven plate, pressure plate assembly and clutch release mechanism.

The clutch driven plate has a spring dampened hub to reduce amount of torsional vibrations transmitted from engine to transmission.

Grooves in both sides of the clutch driven plate lining prevent the plate from sticking to flywheel and pressure plate due to vacuum between members on disengagement.

The clutch release mechanism consists of a ball-type thrust bearing, which is controlled by a cable.
