New Feature Note
LOW REFRIGERANT CHARGE PROTECTION: This system protects the compressor from damage in the event the refrigerant charge becomes low. System components are as follows:
- A superheat shut-off switch located in the compressor rear head.
- A thermal limiter assembly located in the engine compartment and connected to the super-heat switch.
- A wire assembly which connects the protection system in series with the compressor clutch coil circuit (see wiring schematic in this article).
The superheat switch is sensitive to both low-side suction pressures and suction gas temperatures. The switch senses low refrigerant charge conditions and causes a fuse link in the thermal limiter to blow, opening the compressor clutch coil circuit and rendering the compressor inoperative.
