Compressor Installation

  1. Install compressor on engine, install compressor clutch using new retaining bolt and washer, tighten bolt to 20-30 ft. lbs. torque (energize clutch to hold shaft while tightening nut).
  2. Check compressor oil level and adjust to same level as in old compressor.
NOTE: Compressors are furnished with complete oil charge.
  3. Remove service valve caps and shipping plugs from compressor valve ports and immediately install service valves on compressor using new gaskets and tightening mounting bolts to specified torque (see "Head Installation" in individual COMPRESSOR OVERHAUL data)  .
NOTE: On compressors with "Roto-Lock" type service valves, use new "O" ring seals in valve fittings and tighten flare nuts to 35 ft. lbs. torque.
  4. Without disturbing service valve positions (front-seated), use vacuum pump to evacuate compressor, then close vacuum pump valve and stop the pump.
  5. Back-seat service valves to cut compressor into the system, operate system for 5 minutes at fast idle.
  6. Leak test compressor connections and compressor seal.
  7. Recheck compressor oil level, adding or removing oil as necessary for correct oil level.
