Red BRAKE Warning Indicator Always On
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Ensure brake fluid level is okay. Turn ignition off. Disconnect brake fluid level switch 2-pin connector, located on inboard side of brake master cylinder. Turn ignition on. If Red BRAKE warning indicator illuminates, go to next step. If Red BRAKE warning indicator does not illuminate, replace brake fluid level switch.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 40-pin Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C2. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between brake fluid level switch connector terminal "A", Red BRAKE warning indicator driver circuit (Gray/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair Gray/Black wire for short to ground.
- Disconnect parking brake switch 1-pin connector, located at top of parking brake pedal. Ensure parking brake is fully released. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and parking brake switch (component side) terminal. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, replace parking brake switch.
- Disconnect Black 26-pin instrument cluster connector, located behind left upper instrument panel. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between parking brake switch harness connector terminal, Red BRAKE warning indicator driver circuit (Gray/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair Gray/Black wire for short to ground. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - NEON article.
