No Response From PCM (SCI Only)
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Check PCM power and ground circuits. See CHECKING PCM POWER AND GROUND CIRCUITS . If no problem is found, go to next step. If any problem is found, repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM C1 and C2 connectors. Disconnect scan tool. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 65, SCI transmit circuit (Pink wire) and ground. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Pink wire between DLC terminal No. 7 and PCM.
- Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 65, SCI transmit circuit (Pink wire) and ground. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than one volt, repair short to power on Pink wire between Data Link Connector (DLC) and PCM.
- Using a voltmeter, check voltage between PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 75, SCI receive circuit (Light Green wire) and ground. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than one volt, repair short to power on Light Green wire between DLC terminal No. 6 and PCM.
- Turn ignition off. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between PCM harness connector C2 terminals No. 65, SCI transmit circuit (Pink wire) and No. 75, SCI receive circuit (Light Green wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between circuits.
- Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 75, SCI receive circuit (Light Green wire) and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Light Green wire between DLC terminal No. 6 and PCM.
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance of SCI receive circuit (Light Green wire) between DLC connector terminal No. 6 and PCM connector C2 terminal No. 75. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Light Green wire.
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance of SCI transmit circuit (Pink wire) between DLC connector terminal No. 7 and PCM connector C2 terminal No. 65. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Pink wire.
- Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and DLC terminals No. 4 and No. 5, ground circuit (Black wires). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on Black wire(s) between DLC and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
