Low Oil Pressure Warning Light Concerns
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see
BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition off. Inspect engine oil level. Adjust as needed. Turn ignition on. If oil warning light does not illuminate, go to step 7 . If oil warning light illuminates, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove Oil Pressure Switch (OPS). See OPS LOCATION table. Connect oil pressure gauge. Start engine and run until normal operating temperature is reached. If oil pressure at idle is less than 4 psi, service engine mechanical condition for cause of low oil pressure. If oil pressure at idle is more than 4 psi, go to next step.
- Turn engine off, ignition on. If oil warning light is not illuminated, replace OPS. If oil warning light is illuminated, go to next step.
- Access Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Disconnect BCM connector "B". If oil warning light is not illuminated, repair Gray wire between OPS and BCM connector "B" for short to ground. If warning light is illuminated, go to next step.
- Disconnect BCM connector "A". If oil warning light is not illuminated, replace BCM. If warning light is illuminated, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect information center connector. Remove ignition key. Turn off all lights and accessories. Close all doors. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and information center connector terminal No. 8 (Gray wire) . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace information center. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Gray wire between information center and BCM connector "A".
- Disconnect OPS connector. See OPS LOCATION table. Connect jumper wire between ground and OPS connector terminal No. 1 (Gray wire). If oil warning light illuminates, replace OPS. If oil warning light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Access Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Remove BCM connector "B" cover. Do not disconnect connector. Connect a backprobe jumper wire between ground and BCM connector "B" terminal No. 52 (Gray wire). If oil warning light illuminates, repair open Gray wire. If oil warning light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Disconnect BCM connector "A". Connect jumper wire between ground and BCM connector "A" terminal No. 33 (Gray wire). If oil warning light illuminates, replace BCM. If oil warning light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Access information center connector. Do not disconnect connector. Connect a backprobe jumper wire between ground and information center connector terminal No. 8 (Gray wire). If oil warning light illuminates, repair open Gray wire. If oil warning light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Disconnect information center connector. Remove and inspect oil warning light bulb from information center. Replace as needed. If light bulb is okay, replace information center.
