Chime Inoperative With Turn Signal On

NOTE: For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Test drive vehicle. If speedometer is not functioning properly, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  . If speedometer is functioning, go to next step.
  2. NOTE: Turn signals must be operating properly for chime to work. Operate turn signal in both directions. If turn signals do not function correctly, repair as needed.
  3. Turn ignition on. Operate left turn signal. Using scan tool, read turn signal state in BODY, INPUTS/OUTPUTS. If scan tool displays OPEN, then CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OPEN, then CLOSED, go to step  6 .
  4. Operate right turn signal. Using scan tool, read turn signal state. If scan tool displays OPEN, then CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OPEN, then CLOSED, go to step  6 .
  5. Using scan tool, read turn signal status in CHIME MONITORS. If scan tool displays ENABLED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display ENABLED, go to step  6 .
  6. Using scan tool, enable turn signal chime. Raise and support vehicle. Start engine and move shift selector lever to "D" position. Turn on left turn signal. Increase vehicle speed to more than 20 MPH. Maintain speed for one mile. If chime sounds, system is currently functioning properly. If chime does not sound, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure .
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Gain access to junction block/BCM internal 23-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Operate left turn signal. Using a test light, probe internal connector terminal No. 19. If test light flashes, go to next step. If test light does not flash, replace junction block.
  8. Operate right turn signal. Move test light probe to terminal No. 21. If test light flashes, replace BCM. If test light does not flash, replace junction block.
