Test 17A - No Bus Bias
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
NOTE:
Ignition off during bus test is most common cause for this trouble code.
- If ignition was off during BUS test, turn ignition on. If ignition was on during BUS test, turn ignition on, engine off. Disconnect scan tool. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 3 (Violet/Brown wire). If voltage is not 2.3-2.6 volts, go to step 3). If voltage is 2.3-2.6 volts, go to next step.
- Measure voltage between ground and DLC terminal No. 11 (White/Black wire). If voltage is not 2.3-2.6 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 2.3-2.6 volts, replace scan tool cable or scan tool.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between BCM component terminals No. 3 and No. 34. If resistance is not 100-140 ohms, replace BCM. If resistance is 100-140 ohms, go to next step.
- Connect jumper wire between ground and BCM Black connector "A" terminal No. 3 (Violet/Brown wire). Using scan tool, select BODY, BODY COMPUTER, then SYSTEM TEST. Perform CCD BUS test. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, repair open Violet/Brown wire. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
- Move jumper wire to BCM Black connector "A" terminal No. 34 (White/Black wire). Perform CCD BUS test. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, repair open White/Black wire. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
- Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors. PCM is located next to power distribution center, on left inner fender panel. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between PCM component terminals No. 59 and No. 60. If resistance is not 100-140 ohms, replace PCM. If resistance is 100-140 ohms, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 9 of junction block internal 23-pin connector, under left side of instrument panel. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair fused B+ circuit as needed. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 7 of junction block internal 23-pin connector. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair fused ignition switch output as needed. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and BCM Black connector "A" terminal No. 10 (Black/Light Green wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Black/Light Green wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM.
