Windshield Wiper Test 6A - Wipers Not Parking In Off Position
NOTE:
Perform WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 1A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform, after each repair, VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE
.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Operate wipers in intermittent mode. Using scan tool, observe wiper park switch. If wiper park switch does not toggle from CLOSED to OPEN, turn wipers off and go to next step. If wiper park switch toggles from CLOSED to OPEN, system is currently operating correctly. Using scan tool, clear trouble codes and try to reproduce fault.
- Turn ignition off. Access Body Control Module (BCM) connector "B". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Go to next step.
- Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage on terminal No. 41 (Dark Green/White wire). Turn ignition on. Turn wiper switch to LOW speed position. Observe scan tool voltage reading. If voltage pulsates, replace BCM. If voltage does not pulsate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool voltmeter probe. Backprobing BCM connector "B", connect jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 41 (Dark Green/White wire). Disconnect wiper module connector. See Figure in WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 2C.
- Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between chassis ground and wiper module connector, terminal No. 4 (Dark Green/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace wiper motor. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Dark Green/White wire between wiper motor and BCM.
