Basic Idle Speed (1.8L)
- Ensure engine is at operating temperature and all accessories are off. Place transmission in Neutral and front wheels in a straight-ahead position. Turn engine off.
- Loosen accelerator cable tension. Without starting engine, turn ignition on. Ensure TPS voltage is correct and leave ignition on for 15 seconds. This completely closes ISC plunger. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ISC control servomotor connector. See Fig 1
.
- Turn fixed Speed Adjustment Screw (SAS) until throttle valve is fully closed. Start engine. Check basic idle speed. See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS
. If idle speed is not to specification, go to step 5.

- If idle speed is within specification, turn engine off. Remove all test equipment. Reconnect ISC control servomotor connector. Disconnect negative battery cable for 10 seconds to clear any trouble codes.
- Turn fixed SAS until idle speed starts to increase. See Fig 2
. Turn fixed SAS counterclockwise until idle speed no longer drops (touch point).
- Turn fixed SAS counterclockwise an additional 1/2 turn from touch point. Turn engine off. Ensure TPS voltage is correct. Remove all test equipment. Reconnect ISC control servomotor connector. Disconnect negative battery cable for 10 seconds to clear any trouble codes.
