Pinion Preload
NOTE:
Pinion preload procedure is performed with rack and pinion assembly off vehicle and supported in soft-jawed vise.
Using an appropriate adapter and torque wrench, measure preload while turning pinion gear through one complete rotation within 4-6 seconds. Refer to the PINION PRELOAD SPECIFICATIONS and also the PINION PRELOAD ADAPTER tables. If preload is not within specification, adjust end plug (rack support cover) and recheck preload. Tighten locking nut to specification.
