Switch Test Mode

  1. The switch test mode is used to determine if specific switch inputs are being received by the SMEC. The SMEC only has the ability to determine a change in a switch circuit. It does not have the ability to sense an open or shorted circuit or defective switch.
  2. To enter this mode, first ensure all switches that send an input signal to SMEC are turned off. Put system into Diagnostic Mode and wait for code 55 to appear and the "CHECK ENGINE" light to stop flashing.
  3. On DRB-II Tester (C-4805 ), press "READ/HOLD" key until "READ" is displayed. Turn on switches to send input to SMEC. If the circuit if functioning, the tester will display a change when switch is turned on, and then change again when switch is turned off.
  4. If using "CHECK ENGINE" light to diagnose, the SMEC will turn on the "CHECK ENGINE" light when the circuit is activated. When the circuit is turned off, the light will go out. The SMEC monitors the following switches:
    • Brake switch.
    • Gearshift position (Park, Reverse).
    • A/C switch (if equipped). This is valid only when damped pressure switch is closed and blower switch is in "ON" position.
