Preliminary Tests

Road test vehicle to verify problem with speed control system. Ensure that speedometer is operating smoothly and without fluctuation. All speedometer deficiencies must be corrected prior to testing the rest of the system. If operation of speedometer is okay, check terminals of the servo for looseness and/or corrosion.

NOTE: Vehicles with computerized engine controls, should be tested for stored computer codes. Codes and related problems must be repaired prior to cruise control diagnosis and repair. For additional information, see COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS section.
