Lock-Up Torque Converter Solenoid
The SMEC controls a transaxle-mounted solenoid to allow the torque converter to directly connect the engine to transaxle. When vehicle speed is high enough, the SMEC energizes the lock-up solenoid and the engine is mechanically linked to the transaxle.
When operating conditions indicate that the transaxle should operate as normal, the solenoid is de-energized. This allows the transaxle to return to normal automatic operation. The transaxle will also return to normal automatic operation when the brake pedal is depressed.
