All Models
- Place gear selector in "Park" or "Neutral". Turn all lights and accessories off. If magnetic probe timing light is being used, refer to equipment manufacturer's instructions for service procedure. If conventional timing light is used, connect timing light to No. 1 cylinder.
- Start engine and warm to normal temperature. Connect tachometer to engine and adjust idle RPM to specification. Disconnect and plug vacuum line at Spark Control Computer (carbureted models). On EFI and Turbo models, disconnect engine coolant sensor lead wire.
- Check timing. If timing is within 2° of specification, do not adjust. If timing is incorrect, loosen distributor hold-down bolt and turn housing until specified timing is obtained. Recheck timing after distributor hold down bolt has been tightened.
- On EFI and turbo models, reconnect coolant lead wire. On carbureted engines, reconnect the Spark Control Computer vacuum hose. On all models, recheck curb idle and adjust if necessary. Remove diagnostic equipment. Test drive vehicle.
NOTE:
The magnetic probe timing socket is located at 10° ATDC. This socket is only for use with special electronic timing equipment. Do not use this socket when checking timing with conventional timing light.
