Displaying Fault Codes
- Connect Diagnostic Readout Box (C-4805) to diagnostic connector, which is located near right front strut tower. Set read/hold switch in "READ" position. If diagnostic readout box is not available, flashing of power loss light may be used to read fault codes.
- If possible, start engine. Move A/T selector lever through all positions, ending in Park. If equipped, turn A/C on, then off. Turn engine off. DO NOT restart engine. Turn key on and off 3 times, completing sequence in 5 seconds. Record all fault codes as displayed by diagnostic readout box.
- If using power loss light for display, use same sequence to initiate display. Power loss light will first light up for 2 seconds to check bulb. After bulb check, power loss light will display fault codes by series of flashes.
- There are short pauses between flashes and longer pauses between digits, with 4 second pause between codes. For example, fault Code 23 would be displayed by flash, flash, pause, flash, flash, flash. After 4 second pause, next numerically higher fault code will be displayed.
- Note that display of specific fault code denotes probable area of malfunction. Although code is set as result of specific failure in system, specific component involved is NOT identified by fault code.
NOTE:
See CHRYSLER MOTORS ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM article in COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS section for more detailed explanation of fault codes and further testing procedures.
