Except 2.2L & 2.6L

  1. Connect tachometer to engine and remove vacuum hose from EGR valve. Connect hand vacuum pump to EGR valve.
  2. Start engine and apply vacuum to EGR valve. Engine RPM should drop as vacuum reaches 3 to 5 in. Hg. If engine speed does not drop, a defective EGR valve or plugged intake manifold is indicated.
