Current Output

  1. Disconnect cable from battery negative terminal. Disconnect alternator output wire from "BATT" terminal at rear of alternator. See Figure . Connect positive lead of 100-amp DC test meter to "BATT" terminal and negative lead to alternator output wire.
  2. Connect positive lead of 18-volt DC test meter to "BATT" terminal on alternator and negative lead to ground. Connect rheostat between battery negative and positive terminals. Connect tachometer and reconnect negative battery cable. Start engine and allow to idle.
NOTE: When connecting carbon pile rheostat, ensure it is in "Open" or "Off" position prior to connecting leads.
  3. Adjust rheostat and engine speed, in small increments, to obtain 15 volts at 1250 RPM. Ammeter reading should be 50 amps or more. If ammeter reading is less than 50 amps, alternator should be removed from vehicle and bench tested.
CAUTION: DO NOT  allow voltage to exceed 16 volts.
