Nozzle Cleaning
- To disassemble, place upper section in soft-jawed vise and loosen lower section. Reverse position and carefully remove parts from lower section. Do not interchange parts from one injector to another.
- Clean all parts with test fluid. Diesel fuel is not recommended because of the possibility of bacteria growth and moisture contamination. Use brass brush to clean carbon deposits from outside of nozzle. Polish needle seat with a piece of close grained hardwood dipped in test fluid.
- Inspect needle valve for damage or wear. A rough machined appearance on pressure shoulder is not a sign of wear.
- Dip needle valve in clean test fluid and insert into injector. Hold nozzle at 45° angle. Pull needle valve 1/3 of way out of injector. Allow needle to slide down under its own weight. If needle does not slide smoothly, clean and repeat test.
- Assemble all parts after cleaning. Tighten injector assembly cap to holder to specification. Install new heat shields with concave portion of shield pointing down. Use new copper gaskets. Tighten nozzles to specification.
