Removal & Installation: Removal: Notes
- Disconnect battery. Release gear change control rod and selector rod from their respective levers. Remove top pinch bolt from flexible rubber coupling.
- Remove the lower steering column covering. Move pin retaining clip on the gearshift column upward (clip located opposite steering lock). Using a suitable drift, remove the pin.
- Unscrew clamp bolt from lower collar of steering column universal joint (near foot pedals). Slide lower portion of steering column downward until it touches the flexible coupling.

- Disconnect wiring from steering lock, and separate three wiring connectors from steering column wiring harness. Unscrew two bolts retaining handbrake lever support to instrument panel.
- Remove four column-to-instrument panel retaining nuts. Simultaneously lower the gearshift column and steering column (move the handbrake support lever to release column wiring harness).
- Withdraw the upper steering column assembly. Pull lower portion of steering column into vehicle interior. Remove handbrake outer cable stop clamp to enable withdraw of handbrake return lever.
- Remove four nuts securing steering column toeboard plate. Disengage handbrake lever support from its securing studs, to assist in removal of column plate. Extract lower gear change control assembly with toeboard plate and gasket.
