This unit responds to exhaust pressure. Under heavy throttle applications (heavy exhaust pressure), backpressure transducer closes vacuum passage to EGR valve and stops EGR action. Under normal operating conditions, EGR valve functions normally since backpressure transducer allows normal vacuum passage.
