Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the steering column from J 41352  .
  2. Position the steering column through the seal and onto the intermediate steering shaft.
  3. Support the column. Install the nuts on the support bracket studs.

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  4. Install the intermediate shaft upper pinch bolt (2).

    Tighten 

    • Tighten the pinch bolt to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).
    • Tighten the nuts to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
  5. Move the intermediate steering shaft seal into position.
  6. Connect the electrical connector on the steering column wiring harness to the main body wiring harness.
  7. Install the steering column bracket. Refer to BRACKET REPLACEMENT - STEERING COLUMN in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  8. Install the steering wheel. Refer to STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT  .
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  10. Remove J 42640  from the steering column.

  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12. Inspect the steering for proper operation.
