Diagnostic Procedures
- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, refer to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Start engine and allow idle to stabilize for about one minute. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature. Using scan tool, monitor HO2S heater current. Is current within .45-.65 amp? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If no, go to next step.
- Inspect fuse for HO2S 1 ignition 1 voltage circuit. Is fuse open? If yes, go to step 11. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Disconnect HO2S 1 electrical connector. Use a known-good ground. DO NOT use HO2S 1 heater low control circuit or HO2S 1 low signal circuit. Connect a test light to ground and probe ignition 1 voltage circuit at engine harness side of HO2S 1 electrical connector. Does test light illuminate? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 7.
- Connect test light between HO2S 1 ignition 1 voltage circuit and HO2S 1 heater low control circuit. Start engine. Does test light illuminate? If yes, go to step 9. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition OFF. Connect test light between a good ground and HO2S 1 heater low control circuit. Start engine. Does test light illuminate? If yes, go to step 8. If no, go to step 9.
- Repair open in ignition 1 voltage circuit to HO2S 1. After repairs, go to step 14.
- Repair short to voltage in HO2S 1 heater low control circuit. After repairs, go to step 14.
- Check for poor connections at HO2S 1 connector. Repair connector as necessary. After repairs, go to step 14. If connector is okay, go to next step.
- Replace HO2S 1. When complete, go to step 14.
- Locate and repair short to ground in HO2S 1 ignition 1 voltage circuit. Replace fuse. After repairs, go to step 14.
- Check for poor connections at PCM connectors. Repair connectors as necessary. After repairs, go to step 14. If connectors are okay, go to next step.
- Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM. See PROGRAMMING . After repairs, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Start engine. Operate vehicle within conditions for running DTC as specified in Conditions For Running DTC. See CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING DTC . If DTC runs and passes, go to next step. If DTC resets, go to step 2.
- Using scan tool, check for any other DTCs that are set. If no other DTCs are set, system is okay. If any other DTCs are set, repair DTCs as necessary. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
