Test D: Retained Accessory Power On After Time-Out

  1. If Retained Accessory Power (RAP) system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If RAP system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform RAP system diagnostic system check. See RETAINED ACCESSORY POWER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Sit in vehicle and close all doors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, then to LOCK position. Remove RAP relay. RAP relay is located behind glove box, mounted to cross-car beam. See Figure . Check operation of power windows, radio and sunroof (if equipped) for correct operation. If power windows, radio and sunroof operate, go to next step. If power windows, radio and sunroof do not operate, go to step  4 .
  3. Repair short to voltage in Dark Blue wire between instrument panel fuse block and RAP relay harness connector, or in Yellow wire(s) between instrument panel fuse block and each component harness connector. See appropriate POWER DISTRIBUTION wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS. After repair, go to step  9 .
  4. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, probe Black wire between Body Control Module (BCM) Blue 24-pin harness connector C3 terminal A10 and RAP relay harness connector terminal A1. See Figure and Figure . BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  6 .
  5. Replace RAP relay. After repair, go to step  9 .
  6. Test Black wire between RAP relay harness connector terminal A1 and BCM Blue 24-pin harness connector C3 terminal A10 for short to ground. If short to ground not found, go to next step. If short to ground is found repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  7. Check for poor connections at BCM harness connectors. If poor connections are not found, go to next step. If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Verify system operation by activating RAP function. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn radio on. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. If radio remains on for about 10 minutes or until a door is open, system is operating properly. If radio does not remain on or does not turn off after 10 minutes or until a door is open, return to step  2 .
