Power Door System Diagnostic System Check

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST G: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Try to establish scan tool communication with Body Control Module (BCM). If communication with BCM is established, go to next step. If communication with BCM is not established, go to TEST F: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
    3. CAUTION: Engine may start during this step. Turn engine off as soon as crank power mode is observed.
  3. Using scan tool, select CLASS 2 POWER MODE in DIAGNOSTIC CIRCUIT CHECK. Rotate ignition switch through all positions while observing IGNITION SWITCH POWER MODE parameter. If ignition switch parameter reading matches actual ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to next step. If ignition switch parameter reading does not match actual ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to TEST B: POWER MODE MISMATCH  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  4. Select DISPLAY DTC function for BCM. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If any DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, repair door ajar system as necessary. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
  5. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to TEST F: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  6. If scan tool does not display DTCs B1000 or B1013, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs B1000 or B1013, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  7. If scan tool does not display DTC B1422, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC B1422, perform DTC B1422: BODY CONTROL MODULE POWER MALFUNCTION  test under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  8. If scan tool displays DTCs that begin with "P", see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If scan tool does not display DTCs that begin with "P", repair power door system as necessary. See appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS article.
