Test C: Washers Inoperative
- If wiper/washer system description and operation has been reviewed and preliminary inspection has been performed, go to next step. If wiper/washer system description and operation has not been reviewed and preliminary inspection has not been performed, go to DESCRIPTION & OPERATION and PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLESHOOTING.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Activate windshield washer. If washer does not operate properly, go to next step. If washer operates properly, check for intermittent or poor connections. Repair as necessary.
- Disconnect windshield washer pump motor Black 2-pin harness connector. Connect a test light between windshield washer pump harness connector terminals. Activate windshield washer switch. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step 7 .
- Check for an open or high resistance in Black wire between ground and windshield washer pump motor. If Black wire is okay, go to next step. If Black wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 8 .
- Check for an open or high resistance in Red wire between windshield washer pump motor and windshield wiper/washer switch. If Red wire is okay, go to next step. If Red wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 8 .
- Replace wiper/washer switch (multifunction switch). See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - CENTURY, GRAND PRIX, INTRIGUE & REGAL article. After repair, go to step 8 .
- Replace windshield washer pump motor. After repair, go to step 8 .
- Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step 3 .
