Test C: Retained Accessory Power Inoperative

  1. If Retained Accessory Power (RAP) system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If RAP system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform RAP system diagnostic system check. See RETAINED ACCESSORY POWER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Close all doors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn radio on. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. If radio does not remain on or does not turn off after 10 minutes or until a door is open, go to next step. If radio remains on for about 10 minutes or until a door is open, system is okay.
  3. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Remove RAP relay. RAP relay is located behind glove box, mounted to cross-car beam. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a test light between ground and, in turn, RAP relay harness connector terminals C1 (Red wire) and C2 (Orange wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates on both circuits, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate on both circuits, go to step  10 .
  4. Connect test light between RAP relay harness connector terminals A1 (Black wire) and C2 (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, leave test light connected and go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  6 .
  5. If test light remains illuminated for 10 minutes, go to step  7 . If test light does not remain illuminated for 10 minutes, go to step  8 .
  6. Test Black wire between Body Control Module (BCM) Blue 24-pin harness connector C3 terminal A10 and RAP relay harness connector terminal A1 for an open or short to voltage. See Figure and Figure . BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . If open or short to voltage is not found, go to step  9 . If open or short to voltage is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  7. Test Black wire between Body Control Module (BCM) Blue 24-pin harness connector C3 terminal A10 and RAP relay harness connector terminal A1 for short to ground. See Figure and Figure . BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . If short to ground is not found, go to step  9 . If short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  8. Check for poor connections at RAP relay harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  11 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  9. Check for poor connections at BCM harness connectors. If poor connections are not found, go to step  12 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  10. Repair open Orange wire between RAP relay and underhood electrical center and/or Red wire between RAP relay and instrument panel fuse block. After repair, go to step  13 .
  11. Replace RAP relay. After repair, go to step  13 .
  12. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  13. Verify system operation by activating RAP function. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn radio on. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. If radio remains on for about 10 minutes or until a door is open, system is operating properly. If radio does not remain on or does not turn off after 10 minutes or until a door is open, return to step  3 .
