Cellular Phone System Diagnostic System Check
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST G: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Try to establish scan tool communication with Vehicle Interface Unit (VIU). If communication with VIU is established, go to next step. If communication with VIU is not established, go to TEST F: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Using scan tool, select CLASS 2 POWER MODE in DIAGNOSTIC CIRCUIT CHECK. Rotate ignition switch through all positions while observing IGNITION SWITCH POWER MODE parameter. If ignition switch parameter reading matches actual ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to next step. If ignition switch parameter reading does not match actual ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to TEST B: POWER MODE MISMATCH under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Using scan tool, select VIU DISPLAY DTCS function. If scan tool displays any VIU DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any VIU DTCs, repair cellular phone system as necessary.
- If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to step 7 .
- If scan tool does not display DTC U1500, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC U1500, repair cellular phone system as necessary.
- If scan tool does not display DTC B1000, B1004, B1007, or B1009, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, B1004, B1007, or B1009, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
- If scan tool displays DTCs P0560 or P0620, see appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If scan tool does not display DTCs P0560 or P0620, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
CAUTION:
Engine may start during this step. Turn engine off as soon as crank power mode is observed.
