Transfer Case Diagnostic System Check

  1. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see TEST B: SCAN TOOL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Attempt to establish communications with Transfer Case Shift Control Module (TCSM). If communications are established as specified, go to next step. If communications can not be established, TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Select TCSM display DTCs function with scan tool. If DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by symptom. See appropriate TRANSFER CASE ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in TRANSMISSIONS.
  4. If scan tool displays DTCs which begin with "U", see TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS. If any other DTCs are recorded, go to next step.
  5. If scan tool displays DTCs P0502, P0503, or other PCM DTCs, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. For other DTCs see appropriate TRANSFER CASE ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in TRANSMISSIONS.
