Anti-Lock Brake System Diagnostic System Check

  1. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see TEST B: SCAN TOOL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with 4WAL 3 sensor, PCM, Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and BCM. If scan tool communicates with specified modules, go to next step. If scan tool does not establish communications as specified, see TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Use scan tool to display DTCs from 4WAL 3 Sensor, PCM and IPC. If DTCs are listed, go to next step. If DTCs are not reported, repair by symptom. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK BRAKES article.
  4. If scan tool displays DTCs which begin with "U" or DTC C0292 or C0297, see TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS. If any other DTCs are recorded, go to next step.
  5. If scan tool reports DTCs P0500, P0562, P0563, P0601, P0602, P0603, P0605, P1621, or P1381, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If any other DTCs are recorded, go to next step.
  6. Perform appropriate diagnostic test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
