DTC B0502: Right Daytime Running Lights Relay Circuit (Open Or Short To Ground): Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Chevrolet Corvette. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If BCM diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If BCM diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to BODY CONTROL MODULE DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, command right Daytime Running Lights (DRL) relay on and off. If right DRL relay does not turn on and off with commands, go to next step. If right DRL relay turns on and off with commands, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn ignition off. Remove right DRL relay from instrument panel electrical center. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Using a test light connected to ground, probe right DRL relay battery feed terminals at instrument panel electrical center. If test light comes on at both terminals, go to next step. If test light does not come on at both terminals, go to step 10.
- Connect test light between right DRL relay battery feed and CKT 1966 terminals at instrument panel electrical center. Using scan tool, command right DRL relay on and off. If test light does not turn on and off as commanded, go to next step. If test light turns on and off as commanded, go to step 8.
- If test light does not remain on with each command, go to next step. If test light remains on with each command, go to step 7.
- Check for an open in Light Green wire between BCM connector C2 and right DRL relay. See HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS & DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS article. If circuit is okay, go to step 9. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step 13.
- Check for short to ground in Light Green wire between BCM connector C2 and right DRL relay. See HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS & DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS article. If circuit is okay, go to step 9. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step 13.
- Check for poor connections at right DRL relay terminals. If connections are okay, go to step 11. If problem is found and repaired, go to step 13.
- Check for poor connections at BCM connector terminals. If problem was found and repaired, go to step 13. If connections are okay, go to step 12.
- Repair open or short in battery feed circuit to instrument panel electrical center. See HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS & DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS article. After repairs, go to step 13.
- Replace right DRL relay. After repairs, go to step 13.
- Replace BCM and program. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. See BCM PROGRAMMING/RPO CONFIGURATION under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Reinstall all components and connectors. Turn ignition on. Clear DTCs. If DTC resets, go to step 2.
