DLC Diagnosis Or No Scan Tool Data
NOTE:
Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system check after completing any repairs. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK .
- Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK . After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
- Check if scan tool communicates with any systems (ABS, HVAC, etc.) other than the PCM. If scan tool is communicating, go to next step. If scan tool is not communicating, check serial data circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Attempt to start engine. If engine starts and runs, go to step 11. If engine does not start or starts and stalls, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using a test light connected to ground, probe battery and ignition feed circuits in PCM harness connector. If test light illuminates on all circuits, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate on all circuits, go to step 6.
- Using a DVOM, check resistance on PCM ground circuits at PCM harness connector C1. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step 14. If resistance is not 5 ohms or less, go to step 7.
- Repair affected power feed circuit. After repairs, perform OBD system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK .
- Repair open or high resistance in affected ground circuit. After repairs perform OBD system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK .
- Disconnect scan tool. Using a test light connected to ground, probe DLC terminal No. 16. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 10.
- Using DVOM, check resistance between chassis ground and DLC terminals No. 4 and 5. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step 15. If resistance is not 5 ohms or less, go to step 12.
- Repair battery feed circuit to DLC terminal No. 16. After repairs, perform OBD system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK .
- Check for open in serial data circuit between PCM and DLC terminal No. 2. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform OBD system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK . If circuit is okay, go to step 13.
- Repair open or high resistance in ground circuit to DLC connector. After repairs, perform OBD system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK .
- Verify scan tool operation in another vehicle. If scan tool operates properly, go to next step. If scan tool does not operate properly, replace scan tool.
- Check for poor connections or terminal tension at PCM harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform OBD system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK . If connections or terminal tension are okay, go to next step.
- Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. After replacing PCM, perform OBD system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK .
