Scan Tool Will Not Communicate With Entertainment & Comfort (E & C) Serial Data Line: Testing
- Connect scan tool to DLC. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP .
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Attempt to communicate with module(s) on "E" & "C" serial data line. If any of the module(s) communicate with scan tool, go to step 5 . If none of the module(s) communicate with scan tool, go to next step.
- Check for open in positive battery voltage circuits and ignition voltage circuit(s) of radio. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to appropriate system starting point for applicable diagnostic system check. If battery voltage and ignition voltage circuit(s) are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check ground circuit(s) of radio, for open or high resistance. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to appropriate system starting point for applicable diagnostic system check. If ground circuit(s) are okay, go to next step.
- If both modules on "E" and "C" data line circuit communicate with scan tool, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If both modules on "E" and "C" data line circuit do not communicate with scan tool, go to next step.
- Check for open in positive battery voltage circuits and ignition voltage circuit(s) and CD player (if equipped). Repair as necessary. After repair, go to appropriate system starting point for applicable diagnostic system check. If battery voltage and ignition voltage circuit(s) are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check ground circuit(s) of CD player (if equipped), for open or high resistance. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to appropriate system starting point for applicable diagnostic system check. If ground circuit(s) are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Disconnect scan tool (if connected). Check continuity and for voltage between splice pack SP205 harness connector terminal "L" (White wire) and SDM harness connector terminal D12 (White wire). See Figure and Figure . If continuity exists, repair short to ground. If any voltage exists, repair short to power. See DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. After repair, go to appropriate system starting point for applicable diagnostic system check. If circuit(s) are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect radio connector. Disconnect CD player (if equipped). Check continuity of Dark Green wire between DLC terminal No. 14 and radio harness connector terminal E1 and CD player harness connector terminal No. 10. See DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open or high resistance in Dark Green wire. Connect all disconnected components and connectors. After repairs, go to appropriate system starting point for applicable diagnostic system check.
- Replace module that is not communicating with scan tool. Recheck system operation.
