Test 1: Wipers Do Not Operate In Any Mode
- Locate 48-pin connector behind instrument panel, on right side of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Backprobe with test light between ground and Yellow wire at wiper/washer switch wiring harness connector. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, check WIPER fuse (25-amp). Replace fuse if blown, and check Yellow wire circuit for short to ground. If fuse is okay, repair open Yellow wire between wiper switch connector and instrument panel fuse block WIPER fuse terminal. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Turn wiper switch to HIGH position. Connect test light between ground and Purple wire at wiper/washer switch wiring harness 13-pin connector. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, check for poor connection at Purple wire at wiper/washer switch 13-pin connector to 48-pin connector. Also check for open in pigtail and Yellow wire circuit to wiper/washer switch. Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace wiper/washer switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
- Disconnect wiper motor 5-pin connector. Connect test light between ground and terminal "C" (Purple wire) at wiper motor 5-pin wiring harness connector. See Fig 1
. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, check for open or poor connection in Purple wire between wiper/washer switch connector and wiper motor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Repair as necessary.
- Connect test light from wiper motor connector terminal "C" (Purple wire) to terminal "A" (Black wire). See Fig 1
. If test light is on, check for poor connection to wiper motor assembly. Repair as necessary. If connection is okay, replace wiper motor. See WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light is off, check for open or poor connection in Black wire between ground and wiper motor connector terminal "A".
