Circuit Description
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is used to lower oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emission levels. VCM controls EGR pintle position using inputs from TP and MAP sensors. Scan tool can be used to monitor desired EGR position.
VCM supplies 5-volt reference and ground signal to EGR valve. Feedback signal is the actual position of the EGR pintle. Actual EGR position should always be close to commanded desired EGR position.
Conditions for setting DTC:
- No ECT, EVAP, IAC, IAT, MAP or TP sensor DTCs set.
- DTC P0300, P1336 or P1404 not set.
- Ignition voltage greater than 11.7 volts.
- EGR commanded on (desired EGR position greater than zero percent).
- Actual EGR position differs from desired EGR position by greater than 9 percent for 18 seconds.
