Charge Indicator Inoperative

  1. Using scan tool, check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If DTCs exist, repair as necessary.
  2. Disconnect generator wire connector. Turn ignition on. Connect fused jumper wire between generator harness connector terminal "B" (Red wire) and ground. If charge indicator light illuminates, go to next step. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to step  4 .
  3. Replace generator. See GENERATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system.
  4. Disconnect PCM connector C1. Connect fused jumper wire between PCM harness connector C1, terminal No. 36 (Brown wire) and ground. If charge indicator light illuminates, go to next step. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to step  6 .
  5. Check connections and Red wire between generator harness connector terminal "B" and PCM connector C2, terminal No. 61. If connections and circuit are okay, replace PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Recheck system.
  6. Connect a jumper wire between (backprobe) underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C1 terminal F5 (Brown wire) and ground. Turn ignition on. If charge indicator light illuminates, go to next step. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to step  8 .
  7. Repair open circuit on Brown wire between underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C1 terminal F5 and PCM harness connector C1, terminal No. 36. Recheck system.
  8. Connect a jumper wire between (backprobe) underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C2 terminal A5 (Brown wire) and ground. Turn ignition on. If charge indicator light illuminates, go to next step. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace underhood accessory wiring junction block. Recheck system.
  10. Connect a jumper wire between (backprobe) instrument cluster connector C2 terminal "K" (Brown wire) and ground. Turn ignition on. If charge indicator light illuminates, go to next step. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to step  12 .
  11. Repair open circuit on Brown wire between underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C2 terminal A5 and instrument cluster connector C2 terminal "K". Recheck system.
  12. Check charge indicator light bulb. Replace as necessary. If bulb is okay, replace instrument cluster. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Recheck system.
