DTC B1487: Generator "L" Terminal Low With Engine Running: Testing
- If body function controller (BFC) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If body function controller (BFC) diagnostic system check has not been performed, go toBODY FUNCTION CONTROLLER (BFC) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Run engine for more than one minute. Using DVOM, measure voltage by backprobing between generator connector terminal "B" (Red wire) and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If 4.5-5.5 volts exist, go to step 9 . If 4.5-5.5 volts does not exist, go to next step.
- Disconnect generator connector. Disconnect PCM Blue 80-pin connector C1 (2.4L) or disconnect PCM Clear 80-pin connector C2 (3.1L). Using DVOM, measure resistance between generator connector terminal "B" (Red wire) and ground. If continuity is not indicated, go to next step. If continuity is indicated, go to step 7 .
- Reconnect all connectors and components. Run engine for more than one minute. Using DVOM, measure voltage by backprobing between generator connector terminal "B" (Red wire) and ground. If 4.5-5.5 volts exist, go to next step. If 4.5-5.5 volts does not exist, go to step 6 .
- Using scan tool, read PCM "L" terminal input while engine is running. If "L" terminal input is INACTIVE, go to step 9 . If "L" terminal is not INACTIVE, go to step 8 .
- Replace generator. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. After repairs, go to step 9 .
- Repair short to ground in Red wire between generator and PCM. After repairs, go to step 9 .
- Replace PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. After repairs, go to next step.
- Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Clear DTCs. Perform BODY FUNCTION CONTROLLER (BFC) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS.
