DTC P0463: Fuel Level Sensor Signal Open/Short To Battery: Testing

  1. If body function controller (BFC) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If body function controller (BFC) diagnostic system check has not been performed, go toBODY FUNCTION CONTROLLER (BFC) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Disconnect BFC Gray 24-pin connector C2. Disconnect fuel tank module connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage between BFC connector C2 terminal A4 (Black wire) and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . See Figure . If zero volts exists, go to next step. If zero volts does not exist, go to step  8 .
  3. Back out left I/P junction block Black 30-pin connector C3 terminal A12 (Black/White wire). Using DVOM, measure resistance in Black/White wire between left I/P junction block connector C3 terminal A12 and fuel tank module connector terminal "D". If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to step  5 . If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Repair open in Black/White wire between left I/P junction block connector C3 and fuel tank module. After repairs, go to step  16 .
  5. Back out left I/P junction block Gray 30-pin connector C2 terminal A1 (Black wire). Using DVOM, measure resistance between left I/P junction block connector C2 terminal A1 (junction block side) and left I/P junction block connector C3 terminal A12 (junction block side). If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to step  12 .
  6. Using DVOM, measure resistance in Black wire between left I/P junction block connector C2 terminal A1 and BFC Gray 24-pin connector C2 terminal A4. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to step  13 . If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to next step.
  7. Repair open in Black wire between left I/P junction block and BFC. After repairs, go to step  16 .
  8. Back out left I/P junction block Black 30-pin connector C3 terminal A12 (Black/White wire). Using DVOM, measure voltage between left I/P junction block connector C3 terminal A12 (Black/White wire) and ground. If zero volts exists, go to step  10 . If zero volts does not exist, go to next step.
  9. Repair short to voltage in Black/White wire between left I/P junction block connector C3 and fuel tank module. After repairs, go to step  16 .
  10. Disconnect left I/P junction block Gray 30-pin connector C2 terminal A1 (Black wire). Using DVOM, measure voltage between left I/P junction block connector C2 terminal A1 (Black wire) and ground. If reading is zero volts, go to step  12 . If reading is not zero volts, go to next step.
  11. Repair short to voltage in Black wire between left I/P junction block 2 and BFC. After repairs, go to step  16 .
  12. Replace left I/P junction block. After repairs, go to step  16 .
  13. Reconnect all disconnected components. Replace fuel tank module. After repairs, go to next step.
  14. Clear DTCs. Check for DTCs. If DTC P0463 exists, go to next step. If DTC P0463 does not exist, go to step  16 .
  15. Replace BFC. See BODY FUNCTION CONTROLLER (BFC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  16. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Clear DTCs. Perform BODY FUNCTION CONTROLLER (BFC) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
