DTC P0462: Fuel Level Sensor Signal Shorted To Ground: Testing

  1. If body function controller (BFC) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If body function controller (BFC) diagnostic system check has not been performed, go toBODY FUNCTION CONTROLLER (BFC) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Disconnect fuel tank module connector. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using scan tool, observe resistance of Black/White wire at fuel tank module connector terminal "D". See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Resistance should be greater than 250 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to step  9 . If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
  3. Back out left I/P junction block Black 30-pin connector C3 terminal A12 (Black/White wire). Using scan tool, observe resistance of Black/White wire at fuel tank module connector terminal "D". Resistance should be greater than 250 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, go to step  5 .
  4. Repair short to ground in Black/White wire between left I/P junction block and fuel tank module. After repairs, go to step  12 .
  5. Back out left I/P junction block Gray 30-pin connector C2 terminal A1 (Black wire). Using scan tool, observe resistance of Black/White wire at fuel tank module connector terminal "D". Resistance should be greater than 250 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to step  8 . If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
  6. Using DVOM, measure resistance between left I/P junction block connector C2 terminal A1 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity is not indicated, go to step  9 . If continuity is indicated, go to next step.
  7. Repair short to ground in Black wire between left I/P junction block and BFC. After repairs, go to step  12 .
  8. Replace left I/P junction block. After repairs, go to step  12 .
  9. Reconnect all disconnected components. Replace fuel tank module. After repairs, go to next step.
  10. Clear DTCs. Check for DTCs. If DTC P0462 exists, go to next step. If DTC P0462 does not exist, go to step  12 .
  11. Replace BFC. See BODY FUNCTION CONTROLLER (BFC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  12. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Clear DTCs. Perform BODY FUNCTION CONTROLLER (BFC) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
