Loss Of Programmer Keep-Alive Memory (KAM)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Pontiac Bonneville. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If battery has recently been disconnected or discharged, use Tech 1 scan tool and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Retrieve DTCs. If DTC 052 does not reset, system is okay. If DTC 052 resets, check radio/cluster fuse No. 9C in instrument panel fuse block. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and repair short to ground in Orange wire circuit. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect A/C-heater programmer harness connector. Using voltmeter, measure voltage between A/C-heater programmer harness connector terminals C1 (Black/White wire) and C13 (Orange wire). If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Orange wire. If battery voltage is present, check for poor harness connection at A/C-heater programmer terminals. If connection is okay, replace A/C-heater programmer.
