DTC B3033: Security System Indicates Tamper: Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am and 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform THEFT DETERRENT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS. Go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, observe BCM SECURITY DATA menu. Turn ignition switch to START position. If scan tool indicates 5 volts, go to next step. If scan tool indicates other than 5 volts, go to step  29 .
  3. Check for poor connection at Passlock(R) connector. If poor connection is found, go to next step. If connection is okay, go to step  5 .
  4. Repair poor connection at Passlock(R) cylinder. After repairs, go to step  29 .
  5. Turn ignition on. With DVOM connected to ground, backprobe for voltage at Passlock(R) connector terminal "C" (White wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If battery voltage is indicated, go to step  13 . If battery voltage is not indicated, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect Passlock(R) sensor connector. Disconnect BCM connector C3. Using DVOM, measure resistance between Passlock(R) connector terminal "C" (White wire) and ground. If resistance is infinite (OL), go to step  8 . If any resistance is indicated, go to next step.
  7. Repair short to ground in White wire between Passlock(R) sensor and BCM. After repairs, go to step  29 .
  8. Using DVOM, measure resistance between Passlock(R) connector terminal "C" and BCM connector C3 terminal B4 (White wire). See Figure . If reading is less than 2 ohms, go to step  10 . If reading is greater than 2 ohms, go to next step.
  9. Repair open in White wire between Passlock(R) sensor and BCM. After repairs, go to step  29 .
  10. Reconnect BCM connector C3. Turn ignition on. With DVOM connected to ground, backprobe for voltage at BCM connector C3 terminal B4 (White wire). If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step  28 .
  11. Check for poor connection at BCM connector C3. If poor connection is found, go to next step. If connections are okay, go to step  28 .
  12. Repair poor connections at BCM connector C3. After repairs, go to step  29 .
  13. Reconnect all disconnected components. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, backprobe for voltage between Passlock(R) connector terminals "B" (Black wire) and "C" (White wire). If battery voltage is indicated, go to step  22 . If battery voltage is not indicated, go to next step.
  14. Disconnect Passlock(R) sensor connector. Disconnect BCM connector C2. Using DVOM, measure voltage between Passlock(R) connector terminal "B" (Black wire) and ground. If zero volts is indicated, go to step  16 . If any voltage is indicated, go to next step.
  15. Repair short to battery voltage in White wire between BCM and Passlock(R) sensor. After repairs, go to step  29 .
  16. Disconnect Passlock(R) sensor connector. Disconnect BCM connector C2. Using DVOM, measure resistance between Passlock(R) connector terminal "B" (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is infinite (OL), go to step  18 . If any resistance is indicated, go to next step.
  17. Repair short to ground in Black wire between BCM and Passlock(R) sensor. After repairs, go to step  29 .
  18. Using DVOM, measure resistance between Passlock(R) connector terminal "B" and BCM connector C3 terminal A6 (Black wire). If reading is less than 2 ohms, go to step  20 . If reading is greater than 2 ohms, go to next step.
  19. Repair open in Black wire between BCM and Passlock(R) sensor. After repairs, go to step  29 .
  20. Check for poor connection at BCM connector C2. If poor connection is found, go to next step. If connections are okay, go to step  28 .
  21. Repair poor connections at BCM connector C2. After repairs, go to step  29 .
  22. Reconnect all disconnected components. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, backprobe for voltage between Passlock(R) connector terminals "A" (Yellow wire) and "B" (Black wire). If 5 volts is indicated, go to step  27 . If 5 volts is not indicated, go to next step.
  23. Disconnect Passlock(R) sensor connector. Disconnect BCM connector C2. Using DVOM, measure resistance between Passlock(R) connector terminal "A" and BCM connector C2 terminal B6 (Yellow wire). If reading is 0 ohms, go to step  25 . If reading is greater than 0 ohms, go to next step.
  24. Repair open in Yellow wire between BCM and Passlock(R) sensor. After repairs, go to step  29 .
  25. Check for poor connection at BCM connector C2. If poor connection is found, go to next step. If connections are okay, go to step  28 .
  26. Repair poor connections at BCM connector C2. After repairs, go to step  29 .
  27. Replace Passlock(R) sensor. See IGNITION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  29 .
  28. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  29. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Go to THEFT DETERRENT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
