DTC B2532: Front Fog Lamp Relay Output Short To Ground Or Open: Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am and 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
If circuit is shorted to ground, fuse will blow. Check fuse before performing diagnostics.
- Perform BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. Go to next step.
- Remove fog lamp relay from right hand instrument panel junction block. Using DVOM, measure voltage between fog lamp relay cavity terminals No. 86 and 87. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step 4 .
- Disconnect right hand instrument panel junction block connector C1. Using DVOM, check for short to ground at terminal No. 85 of fog lamp relay cavity. If short to ground is located, go to next step. If circuit is okay, go to step 5
- Replace right hand instrument panel junction block. After repairs, go to BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Connect fused jumper between right hand instrument panel junction block terminal F3 (junction block side) and ground. Using DVOM, measure voltage between terminal No. 30 of fog lamp relay cavity and ground. If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step 9 .
- Disconnect BCM connector C1. Using DVOM, measure resistance between BCM connector C1 terminal A2 and right hand instrument panel junction block connector C1 terminal F3 (Dark Green/White wire). See Fig 1 . If reading is 2 ohms or less, go to step 8 . If reading is greater than 2 ohms, go to next step.
- Repair open in Dark Green/White wire between BCM and right hand instrument panel junction block. After repairs, go to BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- Replace fog lamp relay. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Go to BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS.
