Diagnostic Procedures

  1. If BCM diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If BCM diagnostic system check was not performed, see procedures in BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to DLC. turn ignition on. Using scan toll, establish communication with EBCM. If communication can be established, go to next step. If communication cannot be established, diagnose anti-lock brake system. See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM article in BRAKES section.
  3. Using scan tool, select BCM DTC function. Check if DTC U1255 is set. If DTC U1255 is present, diagnose using DTC U1255 diagnostic procedures. If DTC U1255 is not present, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool select IPC DTC function. Check if DTC U1040 is set. If DTC U1040 is present, diagnose DTC, see procedures in INSTRUMENT PANEL article. If DTC U1040 is not present, go to next step.
  5. Check serial data line for intermittent open, short to ground, short to voltage, or loose/damaged terminals. Check for faulty splice pack SP205. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 8). If circuits and connectors are okay, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off. Reinstall components and connectors. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Check DTCs. If DTC U1040 resets, go to next step. If DTC U1040 does not reset, system is okay.
  7. Replace BCM. Perform new BCM setup. See BCM PROGRAMMING  . After programming BCM, go to next step.
  8. Turn ignition off. Reinstall components and connectors. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. After clearing DTCs, perform procedures in BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK.
