Diagnostic System Check
- Using scan tool, display DTCs. If any DTCs are set, go to appropriate DTC for diagnosis. If no DTCs are set, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. While observing ANTI-LOCK warning indicator, turn ignition to start. If indicator illuminates for about 3 seconds and then goes out, go to next step. If indicator does not illuminate for about 3 seconds and then go out, go to step 6) .
- Turn ignition off. While observing TRACTION OFF and TRACTION ACTIVE indicators, turn ignition to start. If indicators illuminate for about 3 seconds and then go out, go to next step. If indicators do not illuminate for about 3 seconds and then go out, go to step 6) .
- Road test vehicle for several minutes. Drive over different road surfaces, make several turns and reach at least 15 MPH. Observe ANTI-LOCK warning indicator, TRACTION OFF indicator and TRACTION ACTIVE indicator. If any indicator illuminates, go to step 6) . If no indicators illuminate, go to next step.
- Observe BRAKE warning indicator and note if vehicle braking system exhibited any symptoms of improper mechanical operation. If indicator illuminates and braking system does not operate properly, diagnose brake system. See appropriate DISC & DRUM article. If indicator does not illuminate and braking system operates properly, brake system is okay. Testing is complete.
- If indicator remains illuminated, go to next step. If indicator does not remain illuminated, go to step 10) .
- Using scan tool, display DTCs. If scan tool communicates with EBCM/EBTCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with EBCM/EBTCM, go to step 9) .
- Using scan tool, display DTCs. If any DTCs are set, go to appropriate DTC for diagnosis. If no DTCs are set, go to step 10) .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect and then reconnect EBCM/EBTCM electrical connector. Using scan tool, attempt to establish communication with EBCM/EBTCM. If scan tool establishes communication with EBCM/EBTCM, go to step 1) . If scan tool does not establish communication with EBCM/EBTCM, diagnose serial data line. See appropriate diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
- See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSTIC INDEX table for diagnosis.
