DTC C010: Ambient Temperature Sensor Circuit Open Or Shorted

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ambient (outside) temperature sensor connector. Use DVOM to measure resistance between sensor terminals "A" and "B". See TEMPERATURE/RESISTANCE table. If resistance is within specifications listed, go to step 3). If resistance is not within specifications, go to next step.
  2. Replace ambient temperature sensor.
  3. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Use DVOM to measure voltage between ambient temperature connector terminals "A" and "B". If reading is about 5 volts, go to step 9). If reading is not close to 5 volts, go to next step.
  4. If DVOM reading is greater than 5 volts, go to next step. If reading is less than 5 volts, go to step 6).
  5. Repair short to battery voltage in Light Green/Black wire between ambient temperature sensor connector terminal "A" and A/C-heater programmer connector C1 terminal B1.
  6. Use DVOM to measure voltage between ambient sensor connector terminal "A" (Light Green/Black wire) and ground. If reading is about 5 volts, go to next step. If reading is not close to 5 volts, go to step 11).
  7. If some or all sensor DTCs are present, go to next step.
  8. Repair open in Yellow wire between ambient temperature sensor connector terminal "B" and A/C-heater programmer connector C1 terminal B8. If circuit is okay, go to step 13).
  9. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect ambient temperature sensor. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Clear DTC using scan tool. If DTC resets, go to next step.
  10. Problem is intermittent, check for loose wire or poor connection at connector for sensor or A/C-heater programmer. If circuit is okay, go to step 13).
  11. Use DVOM to backprobe A/C-heater programmer connector and measure for voltage between terminal B1 and Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 4. If reading is around 5 volts, go to next step. If reading is not close to 5 volts, go to step 13).
  12. Repair open in Light Green/Black wire between ambient temperature sensor connector terminal "A" and A/C-heater programmer connector C1 terminal B1.
  13. Replace A/C-heater programmer.
